One quick tease early this morning.
Aurora forecasts were really strong for last night and this morning so I was hoping for a big show. Sadly, this is all we got around 12:30 am--a couple of quick spikes of color and then the ice-fog/haze moved in and blocked everything.
The perfect Winter Solstice ending.
What better way to end my favorite day of the year than to have a pretty decent aurora display! It's been quite awhile since we've seen them in Anchorage. This started early--it just became visible around 9:30 pm and then really got active around midnight. I finally gave up at 3 am. Click on images to view full-screen.
Here comes the sun. Happy Solstice!
My favorite day of the year here in Alaska is Winter Solstice! We get to begin our daily march back towards a summer filled with light. It will take a couple of months before direct sunlight hits our house again, but the ridges behind us that block the light are glowing this afternoon in celebration.
