Where'd the city go?

July 18, 2016 by Chuck Berray

The McHugh Creek forest fire is burning about 4 miles from our house.  There are two ridges between it and us, so we should be fine, but the wind switched today and the smoke from the fire is filling the Anchorage bowl and Turnagain Arm.  I feel like we're living in L.A.

Sunday Night sunset.

July 17, 2016 by Chuck Berray

11pm, the sun peeking through the haze of forest fire smoke and clouds on the horizon.  The gap lasted less than a minute--just long enough to put fire to the inlet-- and then it was gone.

Molten gold tonight

July 15, 2016 by Chuck Berray

A hazy, molten sunset tonight.  Reminds me of a sunset in the deep south, full of humidity and raw heat, one of those nights you just know it's not going to get much cooler.  Luckily that's not the case up here in Alaska.  We'll cool down for a nice, deep sleep.

Just another incredible sunset.

July 12, 2016 by Chuck Berray

These are the main reason not to go to bed early in Alaska this time of year.  The sunsets have been off the charts lately.  This was taken at 11:15pm tonight (Tuesday).
