Second night in a row of really nice aurora. Some very interesting pale luminescent rivers of energy far south of the main body of aurora. People are saying these just might be proton arcs. I've never seen them before--barely visible to the naked eye. The show started very early, with bands visible behind Flat Top around 9pm. These were all shot between 2 and 4am. Finally! After missing a couple of big shows in the past month because of travel, camera repair, and knee surgery, I got to shoot some aurora at 4am this morning. It wasn't as powerful a solar storm as predicted, but definitely worth getting up every half-hour to see if she'd show. It lasted for about an hour. Hoping for clear skies this winter!
A really nice splash of color at sunset tonight highlighting the trees rapidly turning colors on the hillside.
How appropriate that we have our first snow of the season on the Autumnal Equinox. The high peaks and ridges behind the house are turning white right on schedule. Hopefully it's a sign for better things to come this winter--we haven't had decent snow for 3 years.
Time for these beautiful birds to head a bit south, but first a stop along the way for a quick treat. It sure is nice to have my good camera back from the factory service center.
