When I moved to Alaska the first time, one of the big events I shot was the North American Sled Dog Championship race in Fairbanks early in 1985. The queen of sprint racing at that time was Roxy Wright. Today, 32 years later, Roxy won the 2017 Fur Rendezvous Open Championship Sled dog races here in Anchorage. 3 days, a 25-mile sprint each day that takes these dogs less than an hour and a half to run. She won. She's 66 years old. Alaska women are tough! What a fun day shooting incredibly happy dogs and what fond memories triggered.
Shhh, be very, very quiet...
We're definitely on the up-cycle of the snowshoe hare population. We've had up to nine of them in the yard at one time. The lynx population will be exploding in the next couple of years.

Buried in snow :)
Well, we've sure gotten our wish this year to get back to a normal Alaskan winter and have snow. Almost 2' in the past week of super-dry, weightless fluff! Another 8-10" yesterday and last night. Today, there's not a cloud in the sky and the trees are loaded to the point that everytime the Magpies land on the very top--which they love to do--there's an avalanche. It's gorgeous.
