Denali playing "Peak-a-boo" at 1 am.
The light show at 1 am this morning with just the peak of Denali showing above the clouds. This is about as dark as it gets in Anchorage during the summer.

11:25 pm. The sun finally broke through the rain and clouds at the end of the longest day to give us quite a show. The sun will set tonight at 11:42 pm and then we start the slow slide towards winter.

Just happened to walk past the stairs and caught a glimpse of movement past the downstairs window. It was Mama Bear and her 3 brand new cubs! They can't be more than a couple of weeks old. The 3 cubs decided to climb the highest tree in our backyard and eventually took a nap for about a half hour. Tough shooting directly into a white sky. Mom was standing guard below them in the thick stuff. It's amazing how vocal they are, woofing, grunting, whining, squeaking, Mom clacking her jaws. A pretty wonderful little scene that was pure luck to witness.
Came upon this young bull this afternoon right off the road while biking the 5-mile loop around Bear Valley. He completely ignored us. He's looking very healthy.
Smoke from the wildfires burning on the Kenai Peninsula south of Anchorage has drifted into the Anchorage bowl and along the hillside. It's hazy looking down into the bowl and it's leaving a definite taste--and not a good one-- in my mouth tonight. We could use some rain and a wind shift.
