The Snowshoe Hares are really blending in now that we’re having a good old-fashioned Alaska winter.

Interesting optical mirage happening this morning. Mount Foraker usually doesn’t look quite like this ;)

I looked out the living room window this morning shortly after I had put out the Magpie’s breakfast peanuts and saw this guy sitting on our front deck railing calmly watching the goings-on. It was here for more than 20 minutes. Pretty amazing. I took a bunch of pictures through the triple-pane windows and then slowly opened the front door. He let me take one shot and then off he went.
I caught a glimpse of movement out the living room window this afternoon and saw this gorgeous, healthy-looking coyote staring back at me. The first time we’ve ever had one in the yard. I had just enough time to grab the camera and get one quick, out-of-focus shot. It was absolutely wonderful to see one in the neighborhood.

The sun setting on the Alaska Range at 4pm this afternoon. A month ago it would have been completely dark by now.
