Happy New Year!
My first photo of 2023. It’s always going to be a good day, and hopefully, a good year, when Denali is glowing on the horizon. I hope your 2023 is filled with joy.

We had a short show early last night starting around 9pm. A couple of nice streaks, but that was about it, and then it was gone. Probably the last aurora for this year as we’ve got a winter storm coming in this afternoon. Happy New Year, everyone!

Thought we might get a good one, but this was about as strong as it got here in Anchorage early last night. Fairbanks got another big show. We keep missing out. Still fun to see.

It’s good to have a pair of Canada Jays around the house again, especially on Winter Solstice. We haven’t seen any in a while.

Just as we head to Winter Solstice, we’re enjoying a clear and cold-for Anchorage-spell of weather. -2ºf downtown and even colder in some parts of town today. Much colder in other parts of the Alaska. Thick hoarfrost coats everything in a blanket of icy glitter. We’ve had record breaking snow the past couple of weeks, and the wettest year on record. The short days start getting longer tomorrow.
