Sky on Fire!

An amazing night last night and early this morning. Some of the best aurora we’ve had here in Anchorage in a long time. I started shooting around 11:45pm, took a break to warm up at 1am when it quieted down, and then right back outside 15 minutes later shooting until almost 3am. It was a magical night—one we don’t often get here. I love shooting the patterns in the sky that can change by the second. The colors kept changing as well, different shades of green and aqua, even got a couple hits of pink. Not gonna lie and say it felt good that for once, it was cloudy in Fairbanks and we got the good stuff ;) Way too many pictures as usual. Click on the images for full-screen. Enjoy the show.

A lynx in the backyard today.

We had a lynx hang out in the backyard late this afternoon for quite a while. This seems to be the time of year we start to see them. It was curious about our dog, Nika, who was on the back deck. The lynx stayed just inside the brush line behind the house. Seeing these animals is such a gift.

Valentine's Day Aurora gift.

Valentine’s Day ended with the strongest aurora of the winter so far here in Anchorage. I started shooting around 11:45pm and stayed out until almost 2am. By far the best show we’ve had to date. As usual, way too many pictures. Click on images to see full-screen.

Things that go bump in the morning.

On Sunday morning, something kept clunking against the side & bottom of the boat while we were staying on No Reservations for the weekend in Seward, AK., so I got up to see what was hitting us. Thought it might be a log bumping us. Turned out we had a curious visitor who wanted to play. This harbor seal was cruising under and around the boats having a good time. It was really interested in our dog, Nika, when we let her on the dock.
