France 2023 Canal boat rental vacation. Day 1

After far too many years, we are back in France doing another canal boat rental trip. It’s one of our favorite vacations ever, so after the pandemic delays and all that mess, it’s very nice to be back.

This time we are in Northeastern France, near the Belgium border in the Ardennes. We picked up our boat in Pont à Bar in the early afternoon and decided to take a very easy first day down the Canal des Ardennes. It’s early season and we were the only boat on the canal today, which was great. Come along for the ride. Click on each picture for full-screen and captions that will tell the story.

Easter Sunday visitors.

It’s been a busy morning. The Easter porcupine and moose came by for another visit. Yep, it’s still snowing!

A nice surprise leaving Seward.

Leaving Seward today and as we passed the airport our dog, Nika, barked at something out in the field at the end of the runway. It was a coyote! We don’t get to see them that often, so I just managed to grab a couple of shots after we pulled off the highway. Click on images for full-screen

Wonderful visitors this morning.

It’s always great to have Devany shout from her office downstairs “There’s a lynx in the backyard”! I grabbed the camera and managed a couple of shots of it next to the house and in the trees below us. When I turned around I realized there was another, bigger, lynx sitting at the top of our driveway. The smaller (I’m guessing a female) joined it and they headed up our neighbors drive. They are such a rare treat to see.
