The glory of Fall in Denali.
We had to shorten our last trip to Denali because of the loss of our dog, Xena, so we squeezed in another trip this year and wow, the colors were amazing. What a difference two weeks made. The drive through Broad Pass was beautiful late Thursday afternoon as we headed to the park. Denali was out every day we were there, but this was also by far the fewest animals we’ve seen on a trip. We were scared we might break our streak of seeing a bear every time we visit, but luckily we saw one as we were driving out on Monday morning.
A game-changer for us is that we both had ebikes on this trip. With only 3 transit buses running each day, and COVID restrictions still in place we were glad we had them. We biked 35 miles from the Stoney Dome overlook back to the Teklanika campground two days in a row, and then biked from Tek up Igloo Canyon to the top of Sable Pass and then down to the East Fork River bridge and back for a total of 105 miles of biking over 3 days. It was wonderful.
So come along for a fall tour of Denali. This trip turned out to be all about the scenery.
